Invisalign In Elk Grove

Invisalign  In Elk Grove

For many, wearing metal braces is an uncomfortable orthodontic option. While it is an efficient treatment for crooked or crowded teeth, the idea has unfortunately deterred many away from its main purpose: to align your teeth to their proper position. That all changed when Invisalign was founded in 1997 to create a more discreet orthodontic treatment option. People now have the opportunity to wear clear aligners that can be removed at any time without the discomfort or frustration that traditional braces can bring. Our dental team at Make A Smile Elk Grove proudly offers Invisalign in our office and is happy to see if Invisalign is right for you and your family.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign is more than just a plastic retainer, it is a perfect impression of your teeth created by state-of-the-art technology to properly align teeth as inconspicuous as possible. With the use of our top-knotch digital equipment, we’ll receive a high-quality image of your mouth that will then be sent to the dental lab for creation of the aligners. After a couple of weeks, we will have a series of clear trays designed to snap perfectly into place and comfortably guide your teeth to their proper position. It all starts by having a consultation with our Orthodontist here at Make A Smile Elk Grove. Our orthodontic team will examine your teeth and decide if Invisalign or traditional braces are better for you.

Is Invisalign Right For You?

You’ll be happy to know that Invisalign can usually work for most people in need of orthodontic treatment. Although traditional braces don’t grant the same luxuries as Invisalign, parents may find the responsibility of Invisalign to be difficult to handle for their children. Invisalign conveniently removes, allowing you to take it off and put it back on as you please. It’s important to note that Invisalign aligners should only be removed a few hours altogether throughout your day, so making sure they are snapped in when you aren’t eating is ideal. If you have a teenager or a child who can handle such duties, Invisalign may be the perfect solution for them!

Of course, if you are unsure of which options to choose, our orthodontic team will be able to take a look and help you decide if Invisalign is right for you. Below are a few issues that mean you are most likely eligible for orthodontic treatment:

  • Basic Straightening
  • Overbite or Underbite
  • Gaps in Your Teeth
  • Crowded Teeth

What to Expect During Your Time With Invisalign

From the moment you enter our doors at Make A Smile office for orthodontic treatment, our dental team will be with you every step of the way. At your initial consultation, you and the Orthodontist will discuss your goals and how we can make those dreams a reality. After a quick examination, we will develop a personal plan for you to review. If you are happy with the strategy, we will send your impressions to our advanced dental lab to get started on the creation of your aligners.

When the first set of your aligners are ready, we will reach out to you so that you can get started on treatment immediately. While everyone has a different treatment plan, on average you will wear your aligners for about 20-22 hours a day, switching them out for a new pair every 1-2 weeks. The only time they will be removed will be for eating, drinking, and performing your regular dental hygiene routine.

After Invisalign Treatment

After your treatment is all done, your Orthodontist may request that you wear a retainer to keep your teeth from shifting. Over time your retainer will need to be worn less and eventually just while you’re sleeping. Your Orthodontics team in our Elk Grove office will have a specific arrangement for your situation and will be happy to clarify the details of your unique treatment plan.

Common Questions Regarding Invisalign

How long will my treatment last?

All treatment plans are different, but on average Invisalign usually lasts 6-24 months depending on your case. You will also need to make sure that you wear your Invisalign aligners for the recommended 20-22 hours a day and change the set out every 1-2 weeks as directed by your Orthodontist. Following these steps will ensure a smooth Invisalign journey without prolonging the process.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Since every treatment plan is unique, it is hard to say how much Invisalign will cost you personally. Generally, Invisalign starts around $1,500 and goes up from there depending on the complexity of the dental problems. We’d be happy to discuss insurance, payment plans, and discounts so that receiving orthodontic treatment works for you and your budget.

How often will I need to visit the Orthodontist’s office?

With traditional braces, patients normally have to come in for regular wire adjustments every few weeks, but Invisalign appointments look a little different and usually happen a little less frequently. Unless otherwise specified, our Orthodontics team will have you visit about every 6 weeks just to make sure your aligners are doing their job.

What happens if the aligners break?

If the aligner you are currently using breaks, give our orthodontics office a call for the next steps. We may recommend that you wear your last aligners or the next set in the meantime to prevent your teeth from shifting off course.

Will Invisalign hurt?

With each new aligner, you can expect a bit of pressure on your teeth – especially at first. Over time, if there is any pain, it generally subsides. If you are feeling discomfort, reach out to our team at Make A Smile to discuss some options for relieving that pain.

Can I eat in my Invisalign aligners?

The great thing about Invisalign, is that they are removable! Because of this handy little feature, you can take your aligners off and eat whatever you’d like. Just be sure to floss and brush your teeth before putting the aligners back on again. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to perform your regular dental hygiene routine so as to not trap any food and debris between the tray and your teeth. This causes bacteria to stay on your teeth increasing the risk of tooth decay.

Invisalign Retainer

Retainers are a very important part of your treatment plan. A retainer is often used after you have had braces, aligners or other orthodontic appliances as a way to maintain the progress of the treatment plan.
