EMERGENCY DENTAL CARE IN SACRAMENTO
At Make A Smile, we leave space in our schedules for dental emergencies. We know how painful it is to see your child or loved ones in dental pain. Which is why we are committed to providing urgent dental care.
We do everything in our power to help ensure that patients never experience dental emergencies, but if you ever do have one, you will receive prompt, compassionate care at Make A Smile.
 TIPS FOR HANDLING DENTAL EMERGENCIES
- For a tooth that is knocked out, rinse it in tepid water but do not use soap or scrub it. Hold it by the crown (not the root), and gently replace it into the socket if possible. Otherwise, keep it between the cheek and gum, or in a cup of milk. Call Make A Smile Dental and come in right away for the best chance of saving the tooth.
- For a cracked tooth, immediately rinse the mouth with warm water to clean the area. Put cold compresses on the face to keep any swelling down.
- If you bite your tongue or lip, clean the area gently with water and apply a cold compress.
- For toothaches, rinse the mouth with warm water to clean it out. Gently use dental floss to remove any food caught between the teeth. Do not put aspirin on the aching tooth or gum tissues.
Your Child’s First Dental Visit
Our Make a Smile pediatric dentistry is full of state-of-the-art technology and vastly different than the dental office you remember as a child. A positive outlook on dentistry starts with your child’s first dental care visit, and aids in successfully creating a life-long preventative plan for your little one. Your child’s first dental visit should be scheduled as soon as their first tooth erupts or before their first birthday. At your kid’s initial visit, you can expect the following at our office:
- A thorough review of your child’s medical and dental care history
- Helpful tips on keeping your child’s teeth clean after nursing or
bottle-feeding - Instruction on proper brushing techniques
- A comprehensive, non-invasive exam to check soft tissue and
tooth eruption - A visit to the toy chest!
You may join your child during pediatric dental treatment at any time but also welcome you to enjoy movies, toys, and video games with your other children in our reception area. If you do plan on accompanying your child during their dental treatment, try not to bring other children to that appointment, as space is limited in offices.Â
You should continue bringing in your child every six months following their first appointment for evaluations and professional cleanings.
Children with Special Health Care Needs
Make a Smile strives to provide the best dental care for all children. Some patients often present dentists with unique challenges, such as those with significant medical, physical, or mental disabilities. At Make a Smile, however, our staff has received special training to be able to best treat special needs patients in our practice, resulting in the formation of lasting friendships with them and their caregivers. We assure a positive pediatric dental experience to all of our special needs patients attending our dentist office.
We make efforts to significantly reduce the risk of preventative dental problems in our special needs patients by teaching them and their caregivers preventative oral health techniques. If you have any questions regarding pediatric oral health or want an appointment, please feel free to contact our office to speak with a member of our staff. If you are looking for more specialized dental care, our Arden area pediatric dentist office also offers oral surgery and orthodontic services.
After your appointment, we’d love for you to share your experience. Help us by leaving us a review on Yelp!
